Prime Minister Fasal Bima Yojana Awareness Programme at Gaziabad

KVK, Gaziabad under the SVPUA&T, Meerut organized a one day awareness programme on “Pradhan Mantri Phasal Bima Yojana,” on April 11, 2016 with support from ICAR-ATARI, Kanpur. The programme was organized in the Sansad adopted village of Dhaulana in the district Ghaziabad.

Gen. (Retired) V. K. Singh, Minster of State for Foreign Affairs, Govt. of India highlighted the major features of the scheme and informed the farmers to derive maximum benefits out of it. He informed the gathering of farmers that whereas the previous insurance schemes were loaded with high premium thus giving the more benefit to the insurance agencies, the present format of insurance scheme requires lesser amount of premium from the farmers and covers most of the potential risk to their crops and animals. In the changing climatic regime, he also highlighted to promote the intercropping and mixed cropping system to minimize the risk of crop loss. The animal rearing and organic farming may go hand-in-hand, he also added. Gen. Singh impressed upon the farmers’ gathering that protected cultivation technology may be the boon for the small holders for growing off-season vegetables and maximizing the income from agriculture.

Dr. Rajendra Prasad, Director General, UPCAR, Lucknow shared with the participants that two successive drought like situation in last couple of years have necessitated for Govt. of India to plan and implement such innovative and comprehensive scheme of crop insurance.

Dr. Raghuvir Singh, Direcor (Exten.), SVPUAT, Meerut highlighted the major achievements of the Krishi Vigyan Kendras under their jurisdiction.

Dr. Shantanu Kumar Dubey, Pr. Scientist (AE), ICAR-ATARI, Kanpur highlighted the progress of the KVKs in the state of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand regarding the new and innovative frontline extension programmes recently launched by ICAR like Soil health card, Pre-kharif and pre-rabi campaign, ARYA, Mera Gaon-Mera Gaurav, Farmer-FIRST etc.
